Weaver Camp Accessibility Info

How accessible is the camp location?
Our camp is hosted in the forest by a beautiful running brook. Facilities on site include one modern toilet, one outhouse, and a handwashing sink gravity-fed with water from the stream. There is no running water — we pump our wash water from the brook and haul drinking water from a nearby well. There are no showers, but you won’t be able to resist jumping in the brook! Please, no soaps or shampoos in the brook (not even biodegradable ones), so that we may be kind to our aquatic kin.

The central fire pit, food buffet, toilet, and a couple of accessible tent sites are in a flat area including and surrounding the gravel driveway. This area can be a bit lumpy but could reasonably be navigated by someone with a cane, walker, or a rugged all-terrain wheelchair. The majority of our tent sites, workshop locations, and the ritual grove are accessed via uneven forest paths that can be challenging for people with mobility concerns, and are not accessible by any kind of wheelchair. The paths are narrow and include muddy spots, uphill and downhill sections, and narrow log bridges over streams and wet spots. We recommend trekking poles and a walking buddy for people who want extra support on these paths. Tent sites are on the ground (without raised platforms).

  • Seating: Seating options include lawn chairs, low benches, and the ground, and we encourage people to bring a comfortable camping chair of their own if preferred.

  • Bugs: Camp can be buggy at some times of day, so bring some long sleeves and long pants and a bug spray that works for you (we allow both DEET & natural bug sprays, but ask that all bug spray be applied away from the group where no one will get accidentally exposed to it).

  • Tenting Options: We have many tent sites in the forest, among the hemlock and maple trees. This land is sloped and uneven, so smaller tents (sized for 1-4 people) work best in terms of finding a flat spot to pitch your shelter. Here on the mountainside, nights can be chilly even in July, so please bring a foam sleeping pad, a warm sleeping bag (rated to 20 degrees), and a warm cozy hat to wear while you sleep. This land is also very well suited to hammock camping.

  • Indoor Space: If you require indoor sleeping space, you will need to book an AirBnB in the Montpelier, VT area at your own expense.

  • Pet Policy: There are three dogs and one cat who live on this land. The current furry residents do not generally desire extra four-legged company for the weekend, so please arrange to leave your pets at home unless you have a special agreement with us.

We have a culture of helping each other with access needs, and we welcome further conversation if you want to know more about the physical landscape of camp. Camp is open to anyone over 18, and we have successfully hosted beloved octogenarian elders as part of our Weaver events in the past.  Please bring a taste for adventure, appreciation of nature, and a willingness to both ask for help and offer help to others as appropriate.

What are the Covid-19 protocols for Weaver Camp?

We are gathering amidst a continuing pandemic, so let’s do our best to keep each other safe! We ask that all campers do the following:

  • Take extra care to keep yourself healthy in the week before camp.

  • Please take a rapid covid test in the 24 hours before you begin your journey to camp.

  • Do not come to camp if you feel sick or test positive for covid.

  • If you fall ill at camp, we can support you to head home, or arrange for you to isolate on site in the area near your tent.  Please bring a mask in case of illness.

  • In general, masking at camp is optional.  All activities will be outdoors.

  • We support & encourage vaccination and booster shots.
